Personal Connection to Workplace Accidents

Growing up in a union household where his father worked for the MBTA and his mother was a legal secretary, Joe Markey has a profound understanding of the challenges faced by working families in the aftermath of workplace accidents. His personal experience became even more pronounced when his father had a severe accident at work during Joe’s middle school years. The incident resulted in a significant foot injury, requiring surgery and a prolonged absence from work. Joe brings this firsthand knowledge and compassion to his legal practice, implementing strategies to secure the best possible outcomes for his clients. Attorney Markey worked at a leading Boston litigation firm for four years before founding his own firm.

Community Engagement

Attorney Markey was appointed in April of 2024 by the Honorable Governor Maura Healey as a Commissioner of Civil Service. The five member commission presides over all civil service employees appeals which include discipline, by-pass appointments and reclassifications. Joe served as Lynnfield’s Town Moderator from 2016-2024, Joe oversaw the approval of the town’s annual $65 million budget at Annual and Special Town Meetings. He also played a crucial role in appointing citizens to the Finance Committee, responsible for reviewing the proposed annual town budget. Before being elected Moderator, Joe served as the elected Lynnfield Housing Commissioner from 2014-2019.

Educational Background and Achievements

Attorney Markey is an alumnus of Merrimack College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Management. Alongside pursuing his Juris Doctor degree, Joe managed and consulted full-time on notable congressional, state-wide, and county elections in Massachusetts.

Community Involvement

Joe Markey extends his commitment to the community by serving on the Boston Italian Home for Children Anniversary Board and the Chinese Golden Age Home a 501C3 in Boston.
